SAT Scoring Error Hits 4000 College Applicants
According to the NY Times, the College Board notified colleges in early March of a scoring error that could have reduced the total SAT score by up to 100 points. The College Board first noticed the technical glitch in late December, but spent weeks investigating it to determine the scope and cause. Roughly 4000 applicants are affected. They, their high schools, and the colleges to which they have applied are being notified this week of the correct score. The College Board is not correcting cases where scores may have been incorrectly scored but too high.
The reporter who wrote this article contacted a few colleges and those institutions indicated they would "reevaluate" affected files, but I am doubtful that at this stage of the application cycle the additional points will change any decisions.
